Freedom Day is going virtual! While we are sad we won't be there in-person this year, we look forward to commemorating Freedom Day online.
Here is a note from Appomattox Court House National HIstorical Park:
April 8 - 11, On-Site Visits during the 156th Anniversary of the Surrender and Freedom Day
Although the park will not offer its usual slate of special talks, tours, and programs to commemorate the 156th Anniversary of the Surrender and Freedom Day, the park will remain open with visitor services for the commemorative weekend. The McLean House will be open to visitors from 9-5 each day, and staff will be on hand to share the powerful stories of the surrender and emancipation in Virginia. Living historians may also be present in the park's historic village to share different perspectives on the events of mid-April 1865.
For more information, including possible schedule changes due to inclement weather or other factors, please call the park at 434-352-8987, check the park's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AppomattoxNPS or check the park's Twitter feed at https://twitter.com/appomattoxnps.
