Appomattox Celebrates Juneteenth

APPOMATTOX, Va. (WSET) -- People across the nation and here in the heart of Virginia are celebrating Juneteenth.

It's the day in 1865 when slaves in Texas found out they were free.

Dozens celebrated tonight at an event at Abbitt Park in Appomattox.

The organization that put this event together is Appomattox for Equality.
